We are anticipating and planning for our 3rd annual LHJH Chili Cook Off. It will take place on Sunday, January 27th from 3-6. We are looking forward to the location change to Oak Highlands Brewery parking lot and the date change to a Sunday afternoon. Unlimited tickets this year.
We are also very excited about the direction LHJH is headed under the direction of Mrs. Breedlove and her team. Thanks to the success of our Chili Cook Off last year, during Mrs. Breedlove's first year, our Chili Cook Off proceeds were able to help our PTA fund the following:
Supply fund for each teacher
Leadership retreat for teachers
School Planners for all students
STEMscopes for 7th grade
BrainPop School and Home access for 12 months
Supplies for Saturday School, tutoring and other programs benefiting students
Funds for field trips for those unable to attend due to financials situations
Professional Development, Conferences and Workshops for teachers
Grounds beautification (trash cans, benches, trees)
Our LHJH PTA has always done a great job of caring for our teachers and students throughout the school year. The revenues from our Chili Cook Off allow our PTA to take our support of the school to another level. We look forward to seeing the good things happening at LHJH continue this year. Your generosity allows that to happen.
How can you help the Chili Cook Off?
1 - Buy a ticket and attend, tickets are on sale now through the LHJH website (see Register now button above)
2 - Form a team - you can also sign up a team on the LHJH website - contact Valerie Hill - email@example.com
4 - Become a family sponsor of the Chili Cook Off - see the attached form and let me know if you have any questions, we would love to see many, many family names listed on the banner that will be displayed at Chili Cook Off and at the school the entire year. Your donations will help us give more of the money raised straight back to LHJH. With a long list of names we can show our staff and community the support our families have for the junior high.
5 - Spread the word!! - with the move to OHB, we can sell an unlimited number of tickets this year, so tell everyone you know how much fun the LHJH Chili Cook Off is and how important it is for all of us to support LHJH.

RISD TAX RATIFICATION ELECTION ON NOV. 6
The RISD Board of Trustees reached consensus on RISD’s 2018-19 operating budget and formally called a tax ratification election to ask voters to raise the district’s operating tax rate.
“For those who believe in safe schools, outstanding teachers, and maintaining a strong district that meets the high expectations of our community, this action could no longer be avoided,” said RISD Board President, Justin Bono. “From our highest achieving schools to our campuses and students in need of additional resources, RISD can no longer operate on the reduced state funding and revenue generated by a minimum operating tax rate.”
Trustees seek to raise RISD’s operating tax rate from its current level of $1.04 to $1.17. If approved, the change would raise the property taxes on an average value home by $24.66 a month, or $296 annually.
The voting will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 6 as part of the General Election. More info here.
